What is Abiraterone?

Abiraterone is a drug that works by reducing androgen levels in the body. These are hormones that men produce that cause tumor growth within the prostate gland.

Abiraterone can be used in conjunction with steroids (prednisone and methylprednisolone) for treating prostate cancer which has spread to different areas within the body. Abiraterone is prescribed for those who have prostate cancer that can’t be treated through surgery or other medications.

It isn’t known whether tablets containing abiraterone are effective or safe for children or females.¶

Warnings

Abiraterone tablets are not suitable for pregnant women or are likely to be pregnant. This medicine can cause harm to an unborn baby and cause miscarriage.

It is not recommended to use abiraterone when you have an allergy to it.

Before you start taking this medicine, make sure to consult your doctor

Abiraterone should not be used intended for usage by children or women.

To ensure that this medication is appropriate for you, tell your doctor if any of the following:

liver disease;
diabetes (especially when you take pioglitazone , repaglinide or pioglitazone);
heart issues and high blood pressure
a heart attack;
Low levels of potassium are present in the blood. or
troubles with your adrenal gland, or pituitary gland.

Abiraterone could harm the unborn baby in the event that a woman exposes herself to the drug during her pregnancy. Abiraterone tablets are not recommended for women who are expecting or who are pregnant. The medicine from tablets that have been broken can be absorbed into the skin.

Abiraterone may cause harm to an unborn baby when the father takes this medicine prior to conception or during the pregnancy.

Make sure you are using effective birth control when your partner is pregnant or is able to become pregnant. Use birth control for at least three weeks following the last dose.

How to take Abiraterone

Administer abiraterone according to the prescription by your physician. Follow the directions on the label of your prescription and go through the entire medication guide or instruction sheets.

Abiraterone is typically taken once every day while taking a steroid at least 2 times daily. Follow your doctor’s dosage instructions with care.

Your dosage requirements for abiraterone may change when you change to a different brand or strength of this drug. Be sure to use only the medicine that your doctor recommends.

The dose of methylprednisolone or prednisone you receive could change if you suffer from an infection, or in stress. Don’t alter your dosage or stop taking the medication steroid without consulting the advice of your physician.

Drink this medicine by drinking a cup of drinking water.

You can consume Yonsa in combination with or without meals.

It is recommended to take Zytiga with a full stomach. You should not eat any food for at least two hours prior to or one hour after taking Zytiga.

Take the tablet in one swallow and make sure you don’t crush, chew or break it.

Your blood pressure needs to be checked frequently and you might require a regular blood test. If you are diabetic the blood sugar levels should be monitored carefully, particularly when you are taking pioglitazone or the drug repaglinide.

You shouldn’t stop using Abiraterone or your steroid medications immediately. Follow the advice of your doctor on tapering the dose of prednisone.

Keep at room temperature, free of heat and moisture.

Dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Prostate Cancer:

Metastatic CRPC:
Regular dosage: 1000 mg orally every day (in combination with methylprednisolone 5, mg orally 2 times a day)
A modified formulation 500 mg taken orally every day (in combination with methylprednisolone 4, mg daily orally)

The metastatic risk of CSPC:
Regular formulation: 1000 mg taken orally every day (in combination with methylprednisolone 5, mg once daily orally)
A -Micronized formulation 500 mg, orally once each day (in the combination of methylprednisolone for 4 mg orally two times every day)

Comments:
-Patients receiving this drug should also receive a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog concurrently or should have had bilateral orchiectomy.

Uses:
Together with prednisone, it is treating patients suffering from:
Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC)
Prostate cancer with a high risk of metastatic castration (CSPC)

If I do not take the dose?

Don’t miss the missed dose and then take the medication the next day. Don’t take two doses in one go.

Consult your physician for advice If you have missed at least one dose of Abiraterone.

How do I react if consume too much?

Get medical attention immediately or contact for help at the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What to avoid?

Avoid eating food for at minimum 2 hours prior to taking Zytiga and at least one hour following the dose. Foods can boost levels of Zytiga that your body absorbs, and could cause unwanted negative side adverse effects.

Do not take a herbal supplement that contains St. John’s Wort.

Abiraterone side effects

See a doctor immediately If you exhibit symptoms that indicate an allergy reaction Abiraterone such as hives; difficulty breathing and swelling of your lips, face, and tongue.

Contact your doctor immediately If you are suffering from:

the swelling of your ankles, feet or feet, leg pain;
irregular or rapid heartbeats.
a euphoric feeling, similar to you’ve passed out;
intense headache with fuzzy vision, and the pounding your neck or in your ears;
burning or pain during urination;
Low red blood cells (anemia) – pale skin, fatigue and feeling lightheaded or short of breath cold feet and hands;
lower blood potassium leg cramps frequent heartbeats, constipation heart fluttering more frequent urination or thirst sensation of tingling or numbness the feeling of limpness or weakness in your muscles;

Low blood sugar headache hungry, sweating, dizziness, irritation, fast heart rate, and feeling nervous or shakey.

Common side effects of abiraterone are:

Feeling very tired or weak;
feeling very hot;
high blood sugar
elevated blood pressure
swelling in your feet or legs;
anemia low blood potassium, anemia
Painful urination;
unusual liver function test results, or other tests for blood;
joint inflammation or pain;
headache;
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; or
symptoms of cold, such as congestion, sneezing, and stuffy nose. sore throat, cough.

What other drugs can impact the abiraterone?

It is sometimes not safe to use certain medicines simultaneously. Certain medications can alter the blood levels and levels of other medications that you are taking. This could create side effects or render the drugs less effective.

Other prostate cancer medications other prostate cancer medicines, including radiation Ra223. (may increase the chances of fractures if you’re taking Abiraterone) as well as
pioglitazone and repaglinide for treating the condition of diabetes (may cause severe blood sugar hypoglycemia ) while you’re taking Abiraterone.
