What is Livtencity?

Livtencity is a prescribed medicine for treating the cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and infection in children and adults who are 12 years old or older, weighing at least 77lbs (35 kilograms) who have had an organ transplant if their illness or condition is not able to be treated by ganciclovir, foscarnet, cidofovir, or valganciclovir.¶

It isn’t known whether Livtencity is safe or effective for children younger than 12 years of age.

Maribavir, a benzimidazole riboside CMV pUL97 protein kinase inhibitor, is found in LIVTENCITY pills. Maribavir is a drug with the chemical name 5,6-Dichloro-N-(1-methylethyl)-1—L-ribofuranosyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-amine and the structural formula:

Maribavir has the chemical formula C15H19Cl2N3O4 and a molecular weight of 376.23.

FD&C Blue #1, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide, and talc are all inactive components in each 200 mg tablet for oral administration.

Before you take Livtencity

Before you take this medication, inform your doctor about any medical condition you have such as if:

• You are expecting or planning to get pregnant. It isn’t known whether Livtencity could affect your baby’s development.
• If you are nursing or planning to or plan to. It isn’t known whether Livtencity is absorbed into milk. Discuss with your healthcare professional regarding the best method to feed your child while you are undergoing treatment.

What other medications can affect Livtencity?

Inform your doctor about every medicine you take, which includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines including vitamins and herbal supplements.

Livtencity can affect how other medications work and different medicines could alter the way Livtencity functions and can cause serious side effects.

Inform your healthcare professional that you are taking a seizure (anticonvulsant) medication.

• You could ask your physician or your pharmacist to provide a list or list of drugs that are compatible with Livtencity.
• Don’t start any new medication without consulting your doctor. Your healthcare provider can tell you whether it is appropriate to take Livtencity along with other medications.
• Be aware of the medications you are taking. Keep a record of your medications and present it to your doctor and pharmacist when you are prescribed a new medication.¶

Precautions and warnings

• Ganciclovir and valganciclovir’s antiviral activity may be inhibited by this medication. It’s not a good idea to take two medications at the same time.
• Virologic failure can happen during and after this treatment. If the patient does not respond to treatment, check for CMV DNA levels and resistance. Some pUL97 resistance-associated mutations in maribavir confer ganciclovir and valganciclovir cross-resistance.
• Concurrent use of this medication and certain medications may result in potentially significant drug interactions, some of which may result in LIVTENCITY’s therapeutic impact being diminished or concomitant drugs causing adverse reactions.
• This medication has the potential to raise medication concentrations in immunosuppressant medicines that are CYP3A4 and/or P-gp substrates, where even small increases in concentration might cause substantial side effects (including tacrolimus, cyclosporine, sirolimus and everolimus). Monitor immunosuppressant medication levels often throughout LIVTENCITY treatment, especially at the start and end of the treatment, and adjust the dose as appropriate.

How to take Livtencity?

• Take the medicine exactly according to what your physician recommends.
• Take this medication two times per day.
• The tablets can be taken without or with food.
• If you consume too much or take a dose that is excessive contact your doctor or go to the closest emergency room at a hospital right away.

Livtencity side effects

The most commonly reported adverse effects are:

• Taste changes
• nausea
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• tiredness
