What is Acalabrutinib?

Acalabrutinib inhibits the actions of specific enzymes within the body that can inhibit the spread and growth of cancerous cells.

Acalabrutinib will treat mantle lymphoma (a form that is a form of Hodgkin lymphoma) in adults. Acalabrutinib is prescribed when other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Acalabrutinib is approved by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a high priority basis. In clinical trials, patients showed positive responses to this medication. However, further research is required.

Acalabrutinib can also be employed for other purposes that are not covered in this medication guide.

 

Warnings

This medication can help you to be bleeding. Seek advice from your physician or emergency medical attention if suffer from bleeding that does not stop.

Consult your physician immediately when you are experiencing symptoms of bleeding inside your body, for example, dizziness, inability to concentrate, headache, speech difficulties bloody or black stools and brown or pink urine or bleeding from your bowels, or vomiting that appears similar to coffee grinds.

  • Atrial Fibrillation and atrial flutter: Monitor for symptoms of arrhythmias and manage. cancers as well as different solid tumors. Encourage patients to use sunscreen. Atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation Be aware of the signs of arrhythmias and take care to manage them.

 

Before you start taking this medicine, make sure to consult your doctor

Acalabrutinib is not a good option in case you have an allergy to it.

To ensure that acalabrutinib is safe for you, ask your physician if you’ve previously had:

  • An active or chronic illness;
  • a heart rhythm disorder
  • bleeding issues or
  • Hepatitis B (acalabrutinib could cause the condition to return or worsen).

The use of acalabrutinib could increase the risk of getting different types of cancer like skin cancer. Discuss with your physician regarding this risk, and the warning signs to watch out for on your skin.

It is unclear if Acalabrutinib could harm a newborn baby. Inform your physician if you are expecting or planning to be pregnant.

It isn’t known if the drug is absorbed into breast milk, or if it is harmful to breastfeeding babies. Do not breastfeed during treatment with acalabrutinib. It is recommended to do so for at least two weeks following the last dose.

How to take Acalabrutinib?

Follow the directions on the prescription label. Don’t use this medication in smaller or larger quantities or for a longer time than the recommended time.

Acalabrutinib is typically taken each day for 12 hours or until your body’s response ceases to the medication.

Consume this medicine along by drinking a glass of water.

Acalabrutinib can be taken either with or without food.

Avoid chewing, breaking, or breaking the capsule of acalabrutinib. Inhale it completely.

If you require surgery, inform your surgeon in advance that you’re using Acalabrutinib. You might have to discontinue using the medication for a brief period of time.

If you are taking acalabrutinib for treatment, you might require frequent blood tests.

What to avoid when taking Acalabrutinib?

If you are also taking an anti-acid or stomach acid reducer (such as Zantac) then make sure to take your acalabrutinib dosage at least 2 hours prior to when you take the stomach medication.

Beware of exposure to sunlight and tanning bed. Acalabrutinib could cause sunburn more quickly. Protect yourself with protective clothing and sunblock (SPF 30 or more) whenever you’re outside.

Acalabrutinib side effects

AcalabrutinibContact a medical professional immediately If you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergy such as an allergic reaction that causes hives or breathing difficulties and swelling of your lips, face, or tongue.

Consult your physician immediately If you suffer from:

  • bleeding that is unusual (nose vagina, mouth, or rectum) or bleeding that does not stop;
  • symptoms of bleeding within your body, such as weakness, dizziness or confusion, difficulties with speaking, a prolonged headache bloody or black stools as well as brown or pink urine or coughing bloody vomit that resembles coffee grounds.
  • chest discomfort, breathlessness Fluttering within your chest; feeling lightheaded;
  • Low red blood cells (anemia)–pale skin with unusual fatigue and feeling lightheaded or exhausted, cold hands and feet;
  • symptoms of infection: fever fatigue, chills, tiredness symptoms of flu, cough with chest pain, mucus, difficulty breathing; or
  • symptoms of a brain infection that is serious–any alteration in your mental state diminished vision or the weakness of the opposite or the other side or difficulties walking (maybe gradual and become worse rapidly).

The treatment for cancer may be delayed or completely stopped when you experience some side consequences.

Common side effects could be:

  • bruising;
  • headache;
  • muscle pain;
  • diarrhea; or
  • Feeling exhausted.

Acalabrutinib dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Lymphoma:

100 mg taken orally each 12 hours

Comments:
Start treatment at the beginning of cycle 1 (each cycle lasts for one month) when used in conjunction with the drug obinutuzumab.
Start obinutuzumab in Cycle 2 for a total of six cycles. Refer to prescription information for obinutuzumab for suggested doses; use this drug before obinutuzumab if given that same day.
Treatment should be continued until the disease progresses or it is unacceptable toxicity.

Use:
As monotherapy to treat adult patients suffering from mantle lymphoma (MCL) who have had or had at the very least, one treatment
In combination with obinutuzumab to aid in the treatment of patients of all ages who suffer from chronic lymphocytic lymphoma(CLL) and small lymphocytic tumor (SLL)

What other medications will alter the effects of acalabrutinib?

A variety of drugs may interact with acalabrutinib. The interactions with acalabrutinib aren’t all included in this article. Discuss with your physician all the medications you are currently taking and any that you decide to start or stop taking, particularly:

  • warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);
  • An anti-microbial or antifungal medication;
  • antiviral medicine for treating the hepatitis C as well as HIV/AIDS;
