What is ibalizumab used for?

Ibalizumab is used to treat HIV infection. This medicine is used with other drugs.

Description

TROGARZO is a CD4-directed post-attachment HIV-1 inhibitor.

Ibalizumab-uiyk is a CD4 domain 2-directed humanized monoclonal antibody of immunoglobulin G (IgG) isotype 4 with a molecular weight of approximately 150 kDa. Ibalizumab-uiyk is produced by recombinant DNA technology in murine myeloma non-secreting 0 (NS0) cells.

TROGARZO Injection is a sterile, colorless to slightly yellow and clear to slightly opalescent solution with no visible particles in a single-dose vial for intravenous infusion. Each single-dose vial delivers approximately 1.33 mL containing 200 mg of ibalizumab-uiyk, and contains the following inactive ingredients: 10 mM L-histidine (2.06 mg), 0.045% polysorbate 80 (0.60 mg), 52 mM sodium chloride (4.04 mg) and 5.2% sucrose (69.2 mg). TROGARZO solution has a pH of 6.0 and contains no preservative.

Before taking ibalizumab, tell your doctor:

  • If you are allergic to ibalizumab; any part of this medicine; or any other drugs, foods, or substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had.
  • If you are breast-feeding. Do not breast-feed while you take ibalizumab.

This medicine may interact with other drugs or health problems.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take ibalizumab with all of your drugs and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.

What are some things I need to know or do while I take ibalizumab?

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take ibalizumab. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • If you stop taking ibalizumab or any of your other drugs used to treat HIV, talk with your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using ibalizumab while you are pregnant.

How is ibalizumab best taken?

Use ibalizumab as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • It is given as an infusion into a vein over a period of time.
  • It is important that you do not miss or skip a dose of ibalizumab during treatment.

What are the side effects of ibalizumab that I need to call my doctor about immediately?

WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect:

  • Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Changes in your immune system can happen when you start taking drugs to treat HIV. If you have an infection that you did not know you had, it may show up when you take ibalizumab. Tell your doctor right away if you have any new signs after you start ibalizumab, even after taking it for several months. This includes signs of infection like fever, sore throat, weakness, cough, or shortness of breath.
