Hyzine

What is Hyzine?

Hyzine is used to treat anxiety. It is used to treat mood problems. Hyzine is also used to treat upset stomach and throwing up.

Hyzine may be given to you for other reasons.

Before taking Hyzine, tell your doctor:

  • If you are allergic to Hyzine; any part of this medicine; or any other drugs, foods, or substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had.
  • If you have ever had a long QT on ECG.
  • If you are in early pregnancy. Do not take Hyzine during early pregnancy.
  • If you are breast-feeding. Do not breast-feed while you take Hyzine.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take Hyzine with all of your drugs and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.

What are some things I need to know or do while I take Hyzine?

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take Hyzine. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert until you see how Hyzine affects you.
  • Talk with your doctor before you drink alcohol or use other drugs and natural products that slow your actions.
  • An unsafe heartbeat that is not normal (long QT on ECG) has happened with Hyzine. This may raise the chance of sudden death. Talk with the doctor.
  • Unsafe heart problems and sometimes death have rarely happened when Hyzine was given with alcohol or certain other drugs that may slow your actions. Talk with your doctor.
  • If you are 65 or older, use Hyzine with care. You could have more side effects.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using Hyzine while you are pregnant.

How is Hyzine best taken?

Use Hyzine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • It is given as a shot into a muscle.

  • Call your doctor to find out what to do.

What are the side effects of Hyzine that I need to call my doctor about immediately?

WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect:

  • Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • A heartbeat that does not feel normal.
  • A fast heartbeat.
  • Very bad dizziness or passing out.
  • Trouble controlling body movements.
  • Feeling confused.
  • Rarely, a very bad skin reaction has happened with Hyzine. Signs include fever and many small skin spots within large areas of redness and swelling. Call your doctor right away if you have a rash or any of these signs.
  • Tissue damage has happened with Hyzine. Sometimes, this has led to surgery. Tell your nurse if you have any burning, color changes, pain, skin breakdown, or swelling where the shot was given.

What are some other side effects of Hyzine?

All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:

  • Dry mouth.
  • Feeling sleepy.
